Resin Art from Pourpoxy

Before we go into the step-by-step plan for making resin art, it is useful to first go into the concept itself. What kind of art is this? Resin art is a special kind of painting you make with Pourpoxy Resin Art Epoxy, also called epoxy casting resin.

Epoxy resins consist of a special kind of resin and a hardener. By mixing the two components a chemical reaction takes place. This ensures that the liquid resin gradually hardens into a solid plastic. The result is a high gloss and clear surface.

It is possible to create real paintings with the casting resin. We then call this resin art. Pourpoxy Resin Art Epoxy has a higher viscosity because it is formulated to be thicker than others. Due to this reason pigments will stay more visible and have a more vibrant end result.

How can you create Resin Art?

If you want to get started with your artworks yourself, you will have to stick to the following steps. As we have already briefly indicated, it is a chemical process. The wrong proportions can make your resin art not exactly beautiful. We have made it a bit easier for you by putting the steps for making resin art below.

Step by Step:

  1. Provide a clean and dust-free workplace in a well-ventilated area. Then put some foil on the floor or table to protect the surface.
  2. Painters tape prevents epoxy drops from sticking to your paintable surface. Remove the tape the next day after curing.
  3. Make sure your canvas is slightly higher to prevent everything from sticking together.
  4. Use a level to make sure that the painting surface is horizontal on the worktop. If you don’t do this the epoxy resin will slip off your surface and your cast epoxy resin will be invisible after a short time.
  5. Mix the required amount of resin and hardener in the correct ratio For our Pourpoxy Resin art Epoxy This means 2 parts A and 1 Part B component. After mixing for 2 minutes it is usable for about 30-45 minutes at 20 degrees. Use a plastic spatula to stir everything well. If the two components are insufficiently mixed you will have a syrupy substance after the curing time is over.
  6. Color the resin in disposable cups. A few drops of pigment is often enough for a large container of resin. You can pour the resin cups individually on your cloth or use one of the known casting techniques. you can find these on the internet. You can also use a brush to apply it on the surface.
  7. Make the pattern you have in mind. We leave you completely free in this, because everyone has something different in mind when it comes to resin art. This is just what we like to see!
  8. Avoid the creation of air bubbles in the painting. If air bubbles do occur you can remove them using a butane burner or a hot air blow dryer. Do this really short, otherwise the resin will melt and will badly damage the end result.
  9. If the resin starts to dry after a certain time you can’t do too much about it. The resin then becomes very viscous and slowly starts to thread. It then loses its most important property of self-leveling. You can reduce this a little by keeping it warm. Not recommended since you need more heat to get it to level.
  10. When your painting is finished and no air bubbles are on it you will have to cover it to protect it from dust. The best way to do this is to use a cardboard plate. Place this over the painting with enough of space in between so they do not stick to each other.
  11. Let it dry thoroughly before removing the cardboard. A resin art painting made with Pourpoxy resin art epoxy is cured after 24 hours but it takes 7 days for it to fully cure. The resin is not supposed to be exposed to high temperature fluctuations during the drying time.

Tip – use multiple Epoxy Pigments

If you really want to create a unique look then there is a tip that you should really try. This is to use different types of epoxy pigments when making your resin art. For example, you can choose the Metallic Epoxy Pigment. This will give your epoxy resin a special appearance.

By mixing this with Pourpoxy Transparent Pigments you can choose what look you want. It is important that I never use too much pigment colors to mix. With resin art it is not necessary to use a lot of pigment, a few drops is often more than enough to get the desired color. Be really well aware of this when mixing the resin! It is also recommended to buy our Pigment packages these contain multiple pigments to try out.

What can you make?
